Free One-on-One Online Tutoring for K-12 Students

Strike HOPE offers free one-on-one tutoring to K-12 students from low-income families who learn outside the public school system. A vetted volunteer tutor meets with your child online once a week for about six weeks. If your household income is within national poverty guidelines, you can apply for free tutoring.

How our tutoring works

  • One student, one tutor. Every session is one-on-one with a vetted volunteer tutor.
  • Online, from home. Sessions take place over Google Meet inside Strike HOPE’s secure Google Workspace.
  • Once a week for about six weeks. Each session lasts 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Scheduled with you. The tutor sets the session times with the parent, so tutoring fits your family’s week.

Is my family eligible?

Parents or legal guardians of a K-12 student can apply. Your child learns outside the public school system: at home, online, or in a private or alternative program. Your household income is within national poverty guidelines, and you can show it with a recent tax return or benefits letter.

We serve families anywhere in the U.S. Submit one application per child. Families may apply for tutoring and for a free Chromebook.

How to apply

  1. Apply online on our Apply page (one application per child) and attach proof of income, such as a recent tax return or a benefits letter.
  2. Our volunteer board reviews applications once a month and contacts you by email or text.
  3. If your application is approved, we match your child with a tutor. Approved families may wait briefly until a tutor is available.

Applying does not guarantee help. Approval depends on the board’s review and on available tutors and funds.

Support for parents, too

Parents are a big part of learning at home. Our free video, Hope for Parents, is available to every family right now. We are also recruiting volunteers to coach parents one-on-one.

Our progress and how to help

As of October 2026, about 10 students have received free tutoring through Strike HOPE.

Our tutors are volunteers. $100 covers the administrative costs of one student’s six-week tutoring program, and gifts help qualifying families who have applied. 40% of donations go to the tutoring program. Our Impact page shows how donations are split.

Fund a tutoring spot

Strike HOPE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Would you rather give your time? Volunteer as a tutor or parent coach.
