Strike HOPE gives free Chromebooks to K-12 students from low-income families who learn outside the public school system. If your child learns at home, online, or in a private or alternative program, and your household income is within national poverty guidelines, you can apply for a free Chromebook.
What a student receives
Each approved student receives a Chromebook for online lessons and schoolwork. We ship it directly to the family’s home, so there is nothing to pick up and no store visit to arrange. Strike HOPE serves families anywhere in the U.S.
One refurbished Chromebook, shipped to a family, costs Strike HOPE $80.
Who can apply
- A parent or legal guardian of a K-12 student
- The student learns at home, online, or in a private or alternative program
- Household income is within national poverty guidelines
- You can share proof of income, such as a recent tax return or a benefits letter
Families anywhere in the U.S. can apply. Submit one application per child. Families may apply for both of our programs, free Chromebooks and free one-on-one tutoring.
How to apply, step by step
- Fill out the application on our Apply page, one for each child.
- Include proof of income, such as a recent tax return or a benefits letter.
- Our board reviews applications once a month. Strike HOPE is run by a volunteer Board of Directors that reviews every application.
- We contact you by email or text after the review.
- If your application is approved, your child’s Chromebook is shipped to your home. Approved families may wait briefly until funds are available.
Applying does not guarantee help. Approval depends on the board’s review and on the funds we have at the time.
Our progress and how to help
As of October 2026, Strike HOPE has given Chromebooks to 20+ families.
$80 puts a Chromebook in a student’s hands, and gifts help qualifying families who have applied. 50% of donations go to Chromebooks and learning materials; you can see the full breakdown on our Impact page.
Strike HOPE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Common questions
Is the Chromebook really free?
Yes, for families who apply and qualify. There is no charge for the Chromebook or for shipping it to your home.
Does my child have to be homeschooled?
No. Your child must learn outside the public school system, which can mean at home, online, or in a private or alternative program.
Can I also apply for tutoring?
Yes. Families may apply for both programs. Learn more about free one-on-one tutoring.
Will I hear back if I apply?
Yes. The board reviews applications once a month and then contacts each family by email or text.
